Hanna Rosin on Men

Have we seen the end of men? Have we seen the end of the most dominating gender of all time? Is it going to be the women who will be the most dominating gender in the future? Which gender does this sort of economy we are having today fit the best? In this article Hanna Rosin is focusing on those questions. The article deals with themes as feminism and equality.

Hanna Rosin is Jewish, and she is born in Israel. In Israel you can find two types of Jews, there is the modern Jews and the orthodox Jews. The orthodox Jews have a traditional sight at the sex roles. The modern Jews is fighting for equal rights for both genders. The most people would say that Hanna Rosin would be a modern Jew, but as I wrote before they are fighting for equal rights. Hanna Rosin is trying to convince the reader that the women should be and is going to more dominant than the male. So she is neither orthodox nor modern.

Hanna Rosin describes why she thinks that women are taking the leading position in the fight for equality. Her description has a very feministic angle. In the beginning she mentions a biologist, Ronald Ericsson, he was the man who “came up with a way to separate sperm carrying the male-producing Y chromosome from those carrying the X” (p.1 ll.7-8). Ronald Ericsson was not a typically lab guy. Instead of the lab coat he wore cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Hanna Rosin does not like Ronald Ericsson she calls his method for a sperminator, “The lab cowboy and his sperminator portended a dystopia of mass-produced boys” (p.1 l.18)

Hanna Rosin thinks that the women are going to overtake the men on the inside. The women are going to be the leading gender. The men will lose this position and will be falling behind. The article is not an objective one. Through the whole article Hanna Rosin is trying to convince the reader that she is right. She wants to convince the reader that the women are as good as the men and sometimes even better, “Women live longer than men. They do better in this economy. More of ‘em graduate from college. They go into space and do everything men do, and sometimes they do it a whole lot better. I mean, hell, get out of the way — these females are going to leave us males in the dust”(p. 2 ll.58-60). She wants women to appear as a smarter gender than men. She also says that women live longer than men, and women do better in this economy than men. She says that men always have been the most dominant gender of all time, but for the first time since ever women is going to be not only as dominant as men, but even the most dominant gender.

Hanna Rosin tries to engage the reader by relating to and quoting other known people. She also relates to other well-known topics. At page one there is a picture of some women, who looks very successful and powerful. This picture is making the article look very attractive. The language is very informal, it has the effect that the reader feels that he/she has a dialog with Hanna Rosin. The reader feels like he/she can understand what Hanna Rosin is trying to say. We are getting introduced to some people. In the beginning we hear about the biologist Ronald Ericsson. After that we are getting introduced to the French feminist Simone de Beauvoir, she wrote a book about “The Second Sex”. And in the end Hanna Rosin refer to Lady Gaga and her music video. She is referring to something everyone can relate to. She is referring to the culture we are living in. Shortly she also mentions Demi Moore, Susan Sarandon, Aaron Johnson and George Clooney, this is all people who the most people know, and it makes the article more interesting.

If all the changes mentioned in the article is going to be realized, there is going to be some consequences. Most parents prefer girls, so there will be more girls than boys in the world society. In the future there will probably be made more abortions, than in the past because parents in some way can choose the gender of their child. In the article Hanna Rosin says that the girl requests for Ronald Ericsson method is at 75 percent, so it cannot be as bad as Hanna Rosin says it is. But these consequences will probably not happen all around the world, because some countries will probably not allow this inequality to happen. It would not happen in Denmark because the Danish welfare is so good, and because no matter which color the government is there will always be a party in the government which fights hardly for equality. We still see that the most dominant characters in the world are men for example Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un etc. The most dominating woman in the world is Angela Merkel, if you ask me.

If you believe what Hanna Rosin is saying, then we have seen the end of men. If you look at it with a realistic sight then you will be a bit more critical, and you will think about the consequences. It is the men who made the economy we have today. So it will surprise a lot of people if the women suddenly take over. It would surprise me if men have made an economy and society which fits women better than men.
